A lovely day off

I've been working a lot this week, but it's been fun. I have a three-month contracting gig in Atlanta, and I'm still working 6 - 8 hours every day developing my business. The contract gig is pretty fun - everyone I work with is very nice and equally talented. My business is exciting, but has yet to take off - I have two customers in the works and a third that I'm just starting on, so I'm close but not quite there.

Ginger the dogToday, however, I'm not focusing on any of that. I'm taking the day off to do some laundry, pay bills, and organize my MP3 collection. Later today, Kimber and I will be heading to my mom's house with Liz and David's dog Ginger (we're babysitting). It should be fun.

Now if only I could find my iPodcable. I have this awesome Mp3 collection and I can't upload it! Grrr...

Motivation to save

Today I came across Feedthepig.com, a web site dedicated to helping people save money. What I really liked was the Lunch Savings Calculator which shows you how much you can save by packing your own lunch instead of eating out.

Here's a quick example:
Average eating-out lunch price:$6.50
Average "bagged" lunch price:$4.00
Bagged Lunches per Month:20
Savings Interest Rate:4%
Savings per Month:$50.00
Savings over five years:$3,320.00

Not too shabby! Plus everyone knows that packing your own lunch is generally healthier.

Free Cliff's Notes

Check out LitSum.com. The site provides free book summaries, study guides, and other stuff that can help you sound smart.

Also check out Cliff's Notes. I discovered today provide literature notes for free online! Of course, they offer the opportunity to buy the printed version as well.

The Passion of the Christ

After meaning to watch it for over a year, I finally watched The Passion of the Christ last night. After all the hype, I found it to be pretty disappointing. The movie is too long and too little happens. It's just beating after bloody beating and it gets to be boring after a while. There are a few non-violent scenes inserted between the beatings, but they aren't especially interesting either.

One thing that especially irritated me was the combination of slow-motion and dramatic music that seems to pander way too much to the target audience, leaving the rest of us to yawn and role our eyes. It's just far too hokey.
